Room 389
About This Spot
Step into Room 389, and you’re immediately wrapped in a welcoming blend of calm and character that feels both familiar and a little special. Nestled in Oakland’s Grand Avenue, this spot strikes a lovely balance — part cozy café by day, part effortless neighborhood bar by night. The light filtering through skylights highlights warm wood tones and laid-back seating, inviting visitors to settle in whether for a quiet moment or a lively catch-up.
In the afternoon, the air hums gently with the comforting aroma of great coffee, alongside the soft murmur of conversations and the occasional clink of mugs. As the evening unfolds, the vibe shifts subtly, welcoming a crowd drawn by thoughtfully crafted cocktails that feel as approachable as the space itself. It’s the kind of place where bartenders chat easily, and the menu feels like a curated invitation to savor rather than rush — a Manhattan here, a spiced whisky ginger there, each drink sharing a bit of heart.
Food here complements the drinks without ever overwhelming the senses — small bites like empanadas and spiced nuts make perfect companions for the bar’s carefully mixed drinks and the seasonal specials that pepper the menu. Whether you’re unwinding after work or meeting friends during the weekend, the mood at Room 389 invites connection and a sense of ease.
The friendly buzz is enhanced by little thoughtful touches: pet-friendly policies, a small outdoor patio for fresh-air conversations, and the occasional live DJ spinning tracks to gently lift the room’s energy. It’s a place that appreciates the rhythm of a neighborhood’s daily life — from laid-back Sunday afternoons to spirited game nights — all without losing that steady sense of comfort and community.
Room 389 isn’t just about drinks or bites; it’s about those human moments that happen when a space feels lived-in and loved, where the bartender remembers your favorite cocktail and the coffee’s warmth is a small daily pleasure. Whether you’re here for a slow morning, a midweek pause, or a late evening with friends, this is a spot that welcomes you like an easy conversation — familiar, genuine, and quietly uplifting.

Loved the vibe of this bar, went in to meet some friends. I love the location, decent street parking for 5pm. The drinks were well made and the bartender was nice to chat with. Next time I’m in the town might have to swing by again!

Love the cocktails, atmosphere, and friendly service. Coffee is good too. Large group tables, and pet friendly. DJ booth in back near the restrooms. There was a food truck parked outside (on a Sunday) which was great too! Accepts cards.

Excellent bar with nice atmosphere and cool bartenders. I suppose I'm biased because I DJ here but I dig this place - especially the DJ booth. Great sound! And drinks. Cheers

Love this bar. A chill, cozy bar with excellent cocktails and a coffee counter with snacks till 3. You can easily meet friends or do work here. Dogs are welcome! They have a small outdoor patio, and plenty of indoor seating. With skylights the place is well lite. I'm never disappointed when visiting here.

A great place that starts out as a cafe and turns into a bar. Have stopped by for chill drinks on a Sunday afternoon and also to bring the house down for a Warriors game. They don't do cash (as of June 2022). Occasionally have food pop-ups as well.
